Usapang Abs

September 15, 2010 @ 2:00 pm | Categories pinoy jologs culture

People change and so is our preferences.

Yehey!

Haha.

Film: The September Issue

September 8, 2010 @ 2:00 pm | Categories fashion films, movies

Hi guys, I will now try to post some movie suggestions and short reviews on fashion films. This is since I’ve been receiving e-mails asking what movies I can suggest for fashion inspiration. Just don’t expect me to write a review about Sex and the City or Confessions of a Shopaholic. I might share some indie films and not-so-popular documentaries instead.

The September Issue (2009)

For all you know, September is the January of fashion industry. The September Issue is a documentary film that shows the busy life of American Vogue Magazine’s EIC, Anna Wintour, and her staff during the production of Vogue’s September 2007 issue. The director (RJ Cutler) emphasized Wintour being meticulous as she sacrifices the efforts of Vogue’s creative director Grace Goddington because she rejects most of Grace’s works as the days count down to the “close” of the issue. Wintour also shows an aggressive personality that she can influence top designers which trends should be in or out. This documentary is like a déjà vu of The Devil Wears Prada and Anna Wintour is the real-life Miranda Priestly.

I totally fell in love with Wintour’s character, her job, fur coats and fabulous life. After that, I realized how my life sucks. Haha. The September Issue is not an ultimate chick flick, it’s an eye-opener as it depicts the effort that goes into planning and creating the magazine. Though the story doesn’t really revolve around clothing and style, you’ll understand how serious the fashion industry is after watching this film.

Favorite Quote: (Anna Wintour) I think what I often see it that people are frightened about fashion. Because it scares them or make them feel insecure they just put it down. On the whole people that may say, the mean-y things about our world I think that’s usually because they feel, in some ways, excluded or not a part of ‘the cool group’ so as a result they just mock it.

Freshie College Party

September 7, 2010 @ 3:08 pm | Categories dear sosyalera

Dear Ms. Leyn,

Hi Ms. Leyn! Kamusta po? I hope you’re doing fine. I emailed you because I want you to know how helpful your page is. I’m a long-time reader of your blogs and ever since I first visited your page, it’s been my habit to check just to see if you have a new post! Haha. Yes, it’s true. I really enjoy reading this blog, I find it very interesting and helpful.

I’m a college freshie and we have this event on Friday. It’s the first event which will be held outside the university and we’re all invited. At first I thought we’ll wear our uniforms but yesterday they announced the dress code and it’s semi-formal. They indicated that girls should wear cocktail dresses. No miniskirts, plunging necklines, t-shirts, shorts, and slippers. My problem is that I don’t have an idea on what to wear on this event. I’m pretty sure that everyone already has an idea on what to wear for the theme “dress to impress”. I don’t want to stand out that much but I don’t want to look manang either. Another thing is that I don’t know where to buy the dress. I’m also on a limited budget so I guess my budget for the dress is just up to P1,300.

I hope you can help me with this, Ms. Leyn. I’ll be waiting for your response.

Sab

Dear Sab,

I’m doing great. Thanks for asking. :D

Anyway, I think someone already asked me the same problem but it’s for a prom event. First, I advise you to do a bit spying on your friends’ outfit this coming friday. Hehe. So you’d have an idea what are their styles. From there, think of what fashion you’d like to wear: something classy? young? or fab?

Classic & Sophisticated

Wearing something classic and simple is safe, cheaper and won’t go out-of-date. A Little Black Dress can save you on that day. Then wear some bold accessories for an updated look – like bangles, stoned necklaces, layered necklaces or fringe earrings. An affordable black dress can cost from 800-1500 pesos…
