Film: Fashion (Bollywood Movie)

Fashion (2008)

The center of the movie is about an ambitious girl, Megna Mathur who wanted to become a supermodel. She left her hometown Chandiragh and moved to Mumbai to fulfil her modeling dream which is against her father’s will. Meghna has this thirst to be the next runway’s showstopper so she had to make compromises to climb the ladder of success. As she attains her triumph, her success turns into arrogance resulting to sacrifices like losing her boyfriend (Manav) and her best friend (Janet). She then loses respect for herself as she’s slowly failing her career. At the end, Meghna gets back to her senses after seeing the worst side of fame through Shonali, a former supermodel who got addicted to drugs and drinking.

Fashion is not actually about fashion (lol) but the story gives emphasis to the consequences and glamorous life of modeling world. There are lots of moral lessons pointed out by this movie – about family, love, career and success. Just so you know, it’s a Bollywood movie so the coutures featured are Indian inspired. There were fashion names mentioned but I have no idea if they were just made up or what. Haha. The story is quite predictable but if you want a feel-good movie, you can add this film into your movie list.

Don’t forget to prepare a bag of chips and sodas, Fashion runs for 2 hours and 40 minutes (grabe ang haba!). And yes, you need to read subtitles.

Film: The September Issue

Hi guys, I will now try to post some movie suggestions and short reviews on fashion films. This is since I’ve been receiving e-mails asking what movies I can suggest for fashion inspiration. Just don’t expect me to write a review about Sex and the City or Confessions of a Shopaholic. I might share some indie films and not-so-popular documentaries instead.

The September Issue (2009)

For all you know, September is the January of fashion industry. The September Issue is a documentary film that shows the busy life of American Vogue Magazine’s EIC, Anna Wintour, and her staff during the production of Vogue’s September 2007 issue. The director (RJ Cutler) emphasized Wintour being meticulous as she sacrifices the efforts of Vogue’s creative director Grace Goddington because she rejects most of Grace’s works as the days count down to the “close” of the issue. Wintour also shows an aggressive personality that she can influence top designers which trends should be in or out. This documentary is like a déjà vu of The Devil Wears Prada and Anna Wintour is the real-life Miranda Priestly.

I totally fell in love with Wintour’s character, her job, fur coats and fabulous life. After that, I realized how my life sucks. Haha. The September Issue is not an ultimate chick flick, it’s an eye-opener as it depicts the effort that goes into planning and creating the magazine. Though the story doesn’t really revolve around clothing and style, you’ll understand how serious the fashion industry is after watching this film.

Favorite Quote: (Anna Wintour) I think what I often see it that people are frightened about fashion. Because it scares them or make them feel insecure they just put it down. On the whole people that may say, the mean-y things about our world I think that’s usually because they feel, in some ways, excluded or not a part of ‘the cool group’ so as a result they just mock it.

Vampires Suck!

Napapaghalatang maraming chismosong nagbabasa ng blog ko dahil maraming sumubok buksan ang password protected kong entry. Actually, isa lang yung test kung sino talaga ang mga nakaka-alam ng totoo kong pangalan. Lol.

Well anyway, believe it or not, I wasn’t able to watch Eclipse (3rd Twilight Movie) because I can’t force any of my friends to watch it with me. At isa itong patunay na ako lang ang natatanging jologs sa amin. So unfortunately, I can’t post an informal review like I did before. But wait, there’s more! I saw the trailer of this upcoming movie Vampires Suck and I find it interesting. I just hope the whole movie is as funny as the trailer itself…

Suck that Twihards.

The Man Pillow

To all emo girls out there, have you ever borrowed your boyfriend’s shirt and put it on your own bed pillow? Or have you been hugging your pillows as if they are your dream boy? If you secretly answered YES to any of these questions, pwes… ang BADUY MO!

Pero wala nang mas babaduy pa dito…

The Edward Cullen Manllow! The Man Pillow.

Hug him, talk to him, cry on his shoulders or even worse, make love to him through the night. Yak. Hahaha. This is the perfect keepsake for twihards especially that Eclipse will be shown in a couple of weeks. The Pillow looks like an alien though. Hah.
