thanks in advance and GODBLESS.

Dear cancer survivor,

I’m glad that you survived the condition and this is my first time to receive a question about post chemo so i’m quite amazed. Hehe. Well from what I know, hair strands start to grow back at least 6 weeks after your last chemotherapy. The newly grown strands are not yet as strong as your natural hair so as of now, I am discouraging you to undergo any kind of hair treatment (like extensions as you mentioned). You may want to hold off on having chemical processes like perms or coloring because your hair is still fragile and scalp is very sensitive.

Please use gentle shampoo (parang baby shampoo) and conditioner for your hair. You have to be patient because it’s safer to wait for your hair to grow longer than experiment. Your case is sensitive so it’s better to consult a dermatologist/hair specialist about the right products for your scalp. Taking Vitamin E can also help.

Fashion-wise, try collecting fashionable scarves you can use to accessorize. A colorful scarf can add life to a plain looking dress…

Good Day, Ms Leyn! I am a freshman college student taking up Tourism. I’ve been reading your blog posts for a long time and I find it very helpful and informative most especially to the younger generation. Just like your other fans, I would like to ask for some help and advice regarding my problem.

Weeks from now I’ll be attending a seminar with my fellow batch mates in a hotel. Our professor told us to wear a corporate attire during the seminar instead of wearing our uniforms. My problem is this is my first time attending a seminar and this is also the first time I’ll be asked to wear a corporate attire. The only idea I have in mind about a corporate attire is the usual attire of those people who works in an office like those slacks and blazers. I really don’t have an idea on what to wear for that seminar. I want to wear a corporate attire that looks formal yet chic and not old-fashioned. I hope you can help me with this Ms. Leyn. Thank you and God bless.

- V

Dear V,

As what you’ve said, slacks and blazers are like ‘the standard corporate attire’ so it’s acceptable if you wear them on the seminar. But just for a more stylish look, I advise you to wear a semi-formal dress with short sleeves, above-the-knee length and minimal prints. Pair it with a classic black pumps and you’re off to go…

School Formal Party

Hi Leyn! I’ve been reading your blog ever since! Your advices are indeed helpful and I am meaning to ask for an advice, too :)

2 weeks from now, we’re going to have this party at school, the problem is, I still don’t know what to wear. We are ought to wear formal attires, but sleeveless & above-the-knee dresses aren’t allowed. I’m petite, dark, super tall, long haired. just imagine an ugly bitch! I’ve been wandering the web but still can’t find what would fit me best. I’m a bit desperate now. I hope you can help me? :)

- PIA

Dear PIA,

What kind of party is that? No sleeveless and short dresses? WTF. You’re in trouble. LOL. Kidding.

I didn’t quite understand what you meant with petite then super tall? Mali yata. Don’t call yourself ugly because you will definitely feel and look ugly if you think like one. Anyhow, with your case, the styles I can suggest are draped skirt cocktail dresses with sleeves. Here are my picks:

Hi Leyn,

I always visit your site and read about those interesting articles. I learn a lot from your blogs, so thanks for that.

I just want to ask for your help about those what they call vintage accessories. Cause i have few of those accessories and I don’t know if I’m wearing it with the right clothes. So please help me find the right clothes for those accessories :)

I attached a picture of one of my vintage accessory, just to help you picture it in your mind :)

ANNA

Dear ANNA,

I’m not sure if you sent an e-mail twice but sorry for this super late reply. I hope you still read my blog. Lol.

Anyway, vintage accessories are really in right now. And these lovely pieces can be matched with almost any type of clothing so the style is versatile. So that everyone knows what I’m talking about, here are the necklaces I’m referring to:

Good day Ms. Leyn,

I know that you already have a lot of queries asking for tips on clothing for petite people, but I always find that the description of these petite people differ from my body type. I don’t exactly know what body type I am so I attached a few pictures that I hope could help you.

I’m around 5 feet tall (give or take 1 inch) and skinny like most people around my age.

Any tips on dressing up would be of really great help because I will be entering college this June and since I come from 13 years of schooling with uniforms, I don’t exactly know how to dress myself continuously every day as i’m used to usually wearing house clothes after school and just the plain t-shirt and pants kind of clothes when I’m out. Hopefully you can give me tips on what would look nice on me and what to stay away from.

Thank you for taking your time to read this, and I hope you choose to reply to this e-mail through your site :)

-collegedazed

Dear collegedazed,

Hey there, I saw your pictures and you’re actually cute. Can you date my single guy friends? Lol. Just kidding.

You know what, if ever I’ll be given a chance to change my body built, I’d choose being petite because small girls look cute when dressed up. Looking at your pictures, I believe you can be in any type of clothing because you’re long-legged regardless of being small. If you didn’t mention your height, I’d actually think you’re 5′3.

First, always remember these clothing tips for petite girls.

Second, check what’s in your closet. Set aside your old ‘junks’ and gradually switch to stylish clothes instead of the usual jeans and baggy shirt outfit. These are the basic must-haves in your closet:

Hi Leyn,

I’m Cleo and I’m 24 y/o. I’ve been a follower of your blog since time immemorial :p Charos lang. Basta since blogspot days eh reader mo na ko. Pati nga twitter & tumblr mo eh pinatos ko na rin sa pag-follow =)

Anyhoo, I’m writing you an email to ask your help about fashion. A designer friend of mine invited me to attend the Philippine Fashion Week on the 28th at the SMX Convention Center because she will be showcasing her designs on the said event. Problem is, I haven’t been in a fashion show before. I do watch some on TV but never attended one in the past. I don’t want to look like I’m trying so hard to be a fashionista. Ayokong magmukhang I’m overdressed. We also plan on going out for some drinks after the event. What can you suggest for me to wear on the 28th? Okay lang ba mag-dress?

Btw, I’m only 5′1, fair-skinned and medium built.

Thanks so much for the help and stay pretty :)

Thanks,
Cleo

Dear Cleo,

Thanks for your continued support even though my blogspot is already dead. Hehe.

For the upcoming Philippine Fashion Week, it’s better to put on something from the S/S collection since this year’s PFW theme is ‘fashionable chic’. If you’ll be present as a guest and will merely watch the show, a simple cocktail dress and open-toe high heels is the safest outfit you can wear. Wearing a party dress with inflated designs and atypical style can make you seem overdressed. It’s not necessary to be in a super fabulous dress unless you’re one of the front-row guests. Remember, most people who attend such events are fashionistas so be careful with your get-up.

Little Black Dress
A simple yet sophisticated LBD doesn’t go obsolete. Whether you choose a tube dress or with sleeves, the style is apt for the said event…

Dear Leyn,

It’s 2010 and the month of May’s coming quick. As an early start, can you give fashion picks for guys that are trendy now? As for my age, im 17. And the business-y, older look doesnt really work for me. Can you give me, us a down-low on whats in for spring? Im more of a pants guy so it’ll be great if pants are features more.

BTW. I usually shop at Zara and Topman. Thanks a lot!:)

DarrenDynamite

Dear DarrenDynamite,

I usually base my taste for the latest trend from foreign designers and most recent runway collections. But because we don’t have the same season with US or Europe, I just check the pieces that are wearable and appropriate with our climate and culture. Anyhow, since you shop at my favorite stores Topshop/Topman and Zara, it’s easier for you to know the most up-to-date and hippest get-up.

First, I’ve sorted out some of my favorite outfits from the Spring/Summer 2010 Collection of different designers. You can draw inspiration from them. Here are my picks:

As you can see, most of the pieces exhibit dull colors of gray, earth, black and white. I know you’re young and hip, so most likely you’re into colorful and contrasting clothes but if you want to look more sophisticated, then follow the pattern of these shades…

Casual Fashion for Men

Hi Leyn!

I consider myself a person who can design. I do visual art (photography and graphic design) but I think I cannot do good when it comes to styling myself. I have been reading GQ and August Man for a while now and they do help when it comes to clothing a man. But the models there are, well, good looking and slim/lean/whatever. How about for a guy like me? Ehe.

I am sort of biggie on the midsection (gah! big tummy and thigh!). I have been trying to cut that down but as of now, what are the styles you can advice? Thanks much! I trust your style that’s why I asked you. :s

If you need reference, i have attached a pic. :s

Dustin

Dear Dustin,

Basing on the picture attached, I think you pick the right clothes naman. But not the right colors. You may not be as lean as those guy models on magazines but you don’t look obese naman. I bet you already know these but as a recap, here are the basics for men with fuller bodies:

  • Wear dark-colored clothes to avoid noticeable folds and creases.
  • Avoid spandex-like material.
  • Choose fabric with minimal or small prints.
  • When layering clothes, make sure that the prints are harmonized with the other pieces you wear…

Hi Leyn,

I’ve been an avid reader of your blog since Jologs Socialite, and I can see that you have your own SLR too. Which goes my question, how do you manage to stay fashionable while carrying your SLR with you? Like do you put it in your bag or bring it as it is? It feels so bulky whenever I go out because aside from my handbag, buhat ko rin bag ng cam. Or I use a big bag and put the cam in, which is bad I think, kase aalog alog. I need some tips, because I’m attending a grand family reunion next month and I still wanna look fashionable hindi yung mukhang photographer ka lang. As far as I know, no theme for the reunion.

I hope you can help me with this. Kung pwede isama mo na rin ang pwede kong isuot.

Isabel

Dear Isabel,

Hi! I only know a few people who are aware of my previous blog so thank you so much. Anyway, regarding your question, honestly I don’t have a decent camera bag and I’m just using the free black bag from Canon. It’s because I prefer disassembling my SLR when travelling and just put it inside my travel bag. If not necessary, I don’t carry it as is kasi parang ang show-off diba. Haha.

First, wag mo akong tularan and save your money to buy a fashionable bag. Like the ones from Crumpler. From what I know, they sell colorful camera bags and price ranges from 2500 up to 10000 pesos. Quite expensive.

Church Dress Code

hello leyn,

good afternoon, im a big fan of your site, and im so happy that i always find something new here. i love your newest article bec i like the dresses in them. anyways, let’s go to The dilemma.

in our church, we are counseled to dress modestly. although there are no exact rules, most of us decide to follow knee length when it comes to skirts and blouses with sleeves. no short shorts or anything skimpy, no cleavage, (you get the point?) unless your going to have to go to the beach in which case,of course youd have to wear a swim suit. i really like this idea of dressing modestly. wala kaming problema dito, we’re proud of dressing this way. contrary to what others say, i do not feel restricted at all.

sa mga parties, successful naman ang halos lahat sa amin sa mga sinusuot namin. walang nabebreak na rules. pero pahirap na ng pahirap maghanap ng isusuot. grabe sobrang hirap humanap ng dress na maganda na may sleeves. uso pa rin ba ang mga bolero. i hope you could help me look for fashionable finds

sincerely,
mimi mouse

Dear mimi mouse,

Hey, I appreciate that you always check my site. I just hope you keep on supporting my blog. Hehe. Anyway, I do understand some religion/church dress codes but yeah, it’s not an issue. I just noticed that most people who follow such dress codes have the same manner of clothing (like denim skirt and plain shirt). It seems that you want to be more stylish than the usual skirt & blouse thing so here are some ideas for you:

hi po, I always read your opinion regarding the proper attire when it comes on any occasion. I need your help, I just want to know the proper attire sa birthday party sa bar, if possible from head to toe w/ complete accessories na rin. thanks.

french pie

Dear french pie,

Hey, thanks for reading my fashion section. I just noticed you mentioned “po” too much so I edited them out. Now I’m suspecting you’re just making fun of me or what. Haha. :)

Anyhow, I’m assuming that the birthday party you’re attending includes drinking and dancing. Well, I have observed that most people who go to bars are dressed in black, pa-sexy sleeveless tops, black open toe sandals, small purse and shiny make-up. If you want to look stylish and unique, be distinctive from a stereotype party-goer and wear fashionable pieces for this occasion…

Hello! I’m currently a college freshie at UPM. So sadly, walang uniform. :( Uwian ako so I have to look at least a bit presentable pag nagcocommute. Pero I’m sick of the ordinary t-shirt/jeans get-up. Yun na ang parang uniform ko eh. I want to try new clothes that are comfortable enough but still fashionable. :) Any advice po ate?

-Zelley

Dear Zelley,

Hi there! My iskolar friends told me that UP doesn’t require dress codes, good for you. It seems that the usual shirt-jeans is boring you already so let’s rather change your fashion statement. Personally speaking, I have my own way of looking fashionable during casual days without overdressing. Here are some tips:

Dresses
You have to start with collecting casual dresses. Oversized tops and jerseys are recommended to feel comfortable even when commuting. If you’re a keen shopper, you can find affordable tunics with the same price like the shirts you wear. Choose simple colors and prints so you can easily accessorize. Check these samples on how to bring together an entire outfit:

Pear Shaped Body Type

Dear Ms. Leyn,

Hi! First time kong magsulat dito. Well I’m not really into fashion or looking good but recently medyo nabobother na ko sa itsura ko and sa figure ko. Unproportioned kasi yung body ko, maliit sa taas and mataba sa baba. Lalo na yung balakang ko. I just wanna ask kung anu bang mga klase ng damit yung dapat kong isuot. I’m a college student and sa school namin mas madalas kaming nakacasual kesa nakauniform so I want advice on clothes that I can wear to school. Thanks a lot. ^_^

Rosette

Dear Rosette,

According to your description, I think you have the Pear shaped figure. Just a recap, there are 4 common female body types:

  • The Banana or straight type is typical with skinny girls. This body type doesn’t have too much problem with regards to clothes. The shape can wear almost any style from volume dresses to fitting skinny jeans.
  • The Apple shape is the body type where your shoulder to bust line looks heavier than your bottom part.
  • The Pear shape is the reverse Apple where the hip and butt part looks fuller than the upper half.
  • The Hour Glass is an ideal body shape because of the proportioned figure and balanced curves. The hour glass is like the Banana body type because any clothing complements the shape.

But let’s focus on the pear shaped body type. The key for pear shaped figures is to draw attention to the upper half of the body in order to divert attention from the hips and thighs; the result is apparently a balanced body.

Yabang Flip Flops

If you’re really a certified flip flops addict, you shouldn’t just buy a certain brand just because it’s popular. Honestly, the quality of my first Havaianas (2005) is totally different from the latest pair I bought. It kind of degraded. And I can say that other flip flop brands may surpass their quality. Here are some of them:

Grendha
Designed with gems, stones and embossed prints. It can replace your flat sandals without looking too casual.

Flojos
Flojos stores sell varieties from rubber flip flops to fashionable glittery sandals.

Fit Flops
Hey show offs, eto ang kolektahin nyo. Fit Flops are not just your ordinary rubber slippers because of its platform design and durable material. Price ranges from 2990 to 3490 pesos.

Sosyal!

Hi!

I really find your site helpful especially in the fashion section :) I just want to ask what type of clothing can I wear in meeting “the parents”? :) Thank you.

Trx

Dear Trx,

Good day! Basically, meeting “the parents” should leave a good impression so stay simple, that’s it. Although, your outfit should also portray your personality. For example, if you’re a girly gal, stick with a light sundress or any dainty clothing. Then if you’re the casual type of person, wear a blouse and slim jeans.

Pick light colors like pastel shades, white or peach. For an updated fashion, tulip dresses are all the rage this season.
