Kutis Artista

‘Wag mong sabihing gumagamit ka ng whitening lotion matapos mong makita sa commercial na pumuti ang model dahil sa isang produkto? Yung tipong ipapakita pa ang before and after pictures na halata namang camera trick lang.

Ika nga, for marketing strategy lang ‘yan. Misleading.

To Dye For

Hello Leyn,

Sana pansinin nyo po email ko. May balde ka ba? I know.

I have a natural long straight black hair BEFORE (tama ba order ng adjectives ko?). Kulay Grape Red.

Last week, pumunta ako ng salon para magpa-Relax and Hot Oil. So sabi niya, magpapa HairSpa nalang raw ako. So ayun, nag pa HairSpa ako. Alam nyo po ba anong nangyari? WALA.

Maraming Salamat.

Umaapaw,
Raiza

Dear Raiza,

I LOL-ed at the balde thing… and actually at the whole letter. You seem tensed.

Honestly, I dyed my hair red before and I also thought that was the worst thing I did to my hair. Especially when my friends started telling me na mukha akong manok. Haha. How rude.

Unfortunately, the best way you can do is wait for the new hair to grow. That simple. This may sound useless but it’s better than coloring your hair again. If you dye it with black, the chemicals will just make your strands brittle and prone to split ends. Most hair salons do a strand test before they proceed with a treatment…

Simply Formal

Dear Leyn,

We are having our moot court competition this month. We are advised to wear formal dresses during sessions. So I’m having a problem of what clothes to choose without being so standardized. I don’t want my clothes  to appear so boring pero ayoko din naman magmukhang casual. As I assess my professor, I think she wouldn’t be so strict of the clothes as long as it will remain appropriate in the event.

I am planning to go to some ukay stores to find some clothes. But I think thrifting would be easy if I already have some styles in mind. Para alam ko na hahanapin ko from shoes, to bags, to skirts. I am 5′1″, skinny and morena. I also have some problems regarding my being so skinny because I almost lost my butt. Alam mo na in my case that’s the danger of being so skinny.

Lastly, at last na last na talaga… yung event nga pala will be held at a resort and for sure we would be given some time to go to the beach. Ang problema ko I have some scars brought by childhood. Di naman ako pwedeng magpants dun.haha.. Ano ba ang maiaadvise mo sakin?

Good luck sa blog mo! Thanks! Mwah.

Sassy Girl from Makati

Dear Sassy Girl,

I hope the competition has not yet happened but I’d still offer some suggestions for your concern. If you feel that being skinny is an issue, then pass up the usual trousers or jeans so your figure won’t look “flat”. Wear something like, an oversized dress/blouse then match it with a pair of leggings. Make sure your top is hip length to cover up your butt part. This outfit will give sophistication and contour to your figure. To complement your skin tone, pick clothes with neutral shades of gray, beige or cream.

I want to have a copy of this movie, the trailer itself is interesting.

The concept of this film reminds me of college. An art professor once asked us to write a reaction paper about his painting and associate it with politics. He’s an abstractionist. He pulled out one of his canvases – a painting of an open window with a pair of pants nearby. As the whole class was pretentiously amazed by his so-called artwork, I asked mysellf, ano naman ang masasabi ko sa isang pantalon sa sampayan sa tabi ng bintana? Eh wala naman talaga. While the rest were like woah, ideas overflowing!

Che! Ampaplastik.

Layered Hairstyle

Hey Leyn,

Hey Hey! Anyway I’ve been checking out the net for some great hairstyle/hairdo for my medium length hair but still I can’t find anything that fits my personality and maybe my face shape. So yeah, I decided to consult you :] oh wait ako pala si trisha. So eto i have a round face, black colored layered hair with a slightly side swept bangs so anong babagay na hairstyle sa akin kung saan pwede ko syang i-use everytime I go to school or even everytime I go to the mall with my college friends. hoping that you’ll reply to my message :]

More power! and thank you

trish

Dear trish,

Sorry for the late reply. (O diba, parang text lang). As what you’ve said, you can’t decide for a hairstyle that defines your personality. Well I have no idea what type of chic are you – you may be a rocker, girly or a stylish one who loves wearing hair accessories. Hairstyle sometimes doesn’t just depend on your face shape or features. Your hair line is one factor. Bangs cut is recommended for girls with high hairline that’s why the look isn’t appropriate for everyone. There are times we may notice that “this” style appears good on a celebrity then if we copy the hairdo, it just doesn’t look right on us…

So follow my tip, raid your mom’s closet!

Our mom’s clothes are usually in L size so it’s up to us how to add flair on the outfits. If a top is loose-fitting, a waist belt can be a lifesaver or match it with a pair of shorts or mini skirt.

So next time your mom goes shopping, accompany her to update her with the latest fashion and make sure you can borrow some of her stuff. :)

Evolution of Beauty

Media has already obscured people’s perception on true beauty with photoshopped billboards and science-enhanced models; which at times makes the target audiences feel lesser about themselves. I think every girl should watch this ad:

There’s nothing wrong if we groom ourselves, enhance our skin and apply make-up but to the extent that we feel insecure or not love ourselves is the off beam part of this issue. I’ve already worked with photographers and models and it’s not that advertising world is “faking” it. Nowadays, artists also want to have a perfect outcome of their work through technology. So we should just accept that half of what’s shown by media isn’t accurate. Therefore, true beauty still depends in the eye of the beholder.

And here’s a satirized version of the ad…

Hahaha. Lol! O diba, mas effort maging panget.

Celeb Looks for Less

Since most of us are looking for beauty on a budget, I think it’s a good time to post entries about achieving celebrities’ fashion – for less.

Jennifer Aniston in Stuart Weitzman

Cheaper Alternative:
1. Plain Gray Shirt (P150), 2. White Shorts (P250), 3. Boyish Belt (P200) – Landmark
4. Fedora Hat (about P1150) – Topshop
5. Bracelet (P389) – Crossings
6. Wedge Sandals (P2999) – Schu
7. Vintage Necklaces – Cubao X

Blake Lively in Chanel

Cheaper Alternative:
1. Plain White Tunic (P250) – Landmark
2. Scarf (about P490) – Dorothy Perkins
3. Hobo Bag – Le Donne, Robinsons Department Store
4. Metallic Bangles (P49) – Landmark
5. Glitter Flipflops – Flojos, Trinoma

It’s not that I support the idea of “copying” but my point is, brand name isn’t important as long as you have the keen eye when shopping, and of course be practical. You might even find cheaper items than what were mentioned above. ;)
