Pouty Lips

Who doesn’t want Angelina Jolie’s lips?

Of course, most girls want to have sexy pouty lips. Even some local celebrities undergo surgery and spend a lot just to have their lips enhanced. Yun nga lang, it looks overdone and fake.

And for girls like me who are afraid of surgeries and would rather spend money on food, there’s a cheaper alternative for achieving pouty lips. First, apply a darker shade of Lipstick as base then apply your preferred brand of Lip Plumping Serum. I personally use Hard Candy Volumizing Lip Gloss as a finishing touch. I can even feel that my lips are a bit stingy and swelling after application.

Aside from the Lip Plumper, here are other beauty regimen you can do:

  • Apply a tiny amount of concentrated oil of cinnamon leaf to increase your lips’ blood flow. Usually packed in small bottles and available at herbal cosmetics stores.
  • Niacin in Liquid form can also make your lips a swelling effect and redder appearance. Though the liquid Niacin is more expensive than the cinnamon leaf oil.

Syempre eh, gusto nating maging-IN.

I taught 3 people how to smoke in just a span of 1 week.

Anong Zippo?

DSLR vs Barbie Doll

I am a loyal Canon user. I’ve been at ease with the brand since I bought my first camera.

I also love dolls and I have a Barbie collection when I was a kid. Barbie never fails to amuse me with her perfect face and fashionable clothes.

But in terms of usability and photography, can you believe that a Barbie Doll can match the Canon 7D DSLR Camera?

I’ll give you a Barbie. Hindi nga lang mukhang macho ‘pag ginamit…

Post Chemotherapy Hair

hi sosyalera,

ive been an avid reader of your page and im a cancer survivor. gusto ko sana patulong sa problema ko. kasi after chemo, 3 months tumubo narin ang hair ko, about 3 inches na ngayon at nahihirapan ako paano ko ito aayusin lalo na pag lumalabas ako with friends and going to church. i tried using headbands and hair clips, pero parang nakakasawa na ung laging ganun na hairstyle. gusto ko din sana itry ung scarf pero di ko lam kung pano ito gagamitin na babagay sa akin. gusto ko din sana magpa hair extension pero hndi ko alam kung san ba maganda at kung pwede ung hindi nman ako mamumulubi sa presyo.

thanks in advance and GODBLESS.

- cancer survivor

Dear cancer survivor,

I’m glad that you survived the condition and this is my first time to receive a question about post chemo so i’m quite amazed. Hehe. Well from what I know, hair strands start to grow back at least 6 weeks after your last chemotherapy. The newly grown strands are not yet as strong as your natural hair so as of now, I am discouraging you to undergo any kind of hair treatment (like extensions as you mentioned). You may want to hold off on having chemical processes like perms or coloring because your hair is still fragile and scalp is very sensitive.

Please use gentle shampoo (parang baby shampoo) and conditioner for your hair. You have to be patient because it’s safer to wait for your hair to grow longer than experiment. Your case is sensitive so it’s better to consult a dermatologist/hair specialist about the right products for your scalp. Taking Vitamin E can also help.

Fashion-wise, try collecting fashionable scarves you can use to accessorize. A colorful scarf can add life to a plain looking dress…

Asianovela

“Do they promote homosexuality in Korea?”

Someone seriously asked me this after the commercial of He’s Beautiful flashed on tv. Lol.

Here are other Asian series that have the same ‘concept’:

Coffee Prince – A girl named Eun Chan bumped into Han Kyul and was mistaken for a boy. Han Kyul decided to hire Eun Chan to be his gay lover in order to avoid the arranged dates from other girls set by his grandmother. Eun Chan had no choice but to accept the deal because she was desperately in need of money.

Mendol-Ikemen Idol – The story revolves around three wannabe girl idols who witnessed a serious crime and were forced to flee from the culprits. They were saved by a producer who is willing to manage their showbiz careers but they have to hide their true identities and dress up as boys instead.

Hana Kimi – Lu Rui Xi disguises herself as a boy to get accepted in an all-boys school.

Princess Princess D - In all-boys school with a tradition of Princesses (boys chosen to attend school functions dressed up as girls to alleviate the tension between the students), Yutaka, Shihoudani and Kouno are this year’s chosen Princess team. Dissatisfied with the half-hearted efforts of the current Princesses, Hanazono creates his own team of Dark Princesses to rival for the students’ attention. (Wtf. This is so gay.)

Well, nothing’s wrong with the stories though I just find them idealistic. I actually watched Hana Kimi before because it’s funny. At kung tutuusin, halos hindi ko na rin ma-differentiate ang ibang asian male actors from the female actresses dahil ang gaganda nila. Mas maganda pa sakin. Haha. Ugh.

O davah. I can be his leading man, you know.

Candy Magazine August 2010

I just got my August issue of Candy Magazine with Lea Michele on the cover. Yay! With my age, I’m still hooked with this teen mag. Well, perhaps because I’ve been a Candy girl since high school and I have a youthful taste for fashion. Anyway, the magazine featured this month’s cover girl Lea Michele, the lead star of the popular musical series Glee. They enumerated her insights about some teen issues but gave her remarks as the real-life Lea Michele and in character Rachel Berry (and the answers were a bit contradicting).

This month’s issue is a must-have for incoming college freshmen who are still in search for the right school. The Candy August issue is packed with tips that will help college-bound teens ace those college entrance exams. Candy interviewed some of the students from top universities like UP, Ateneo, La Salle, UA&P and shared their advices like what subjects to review and what kind of exams to expect. (I personally don’t need this but I liked this section because they used some images from my favorite chick flick 90210, hehe.)

My favorite feature in this ish is the article ‘The Popularity Profile’ since a lot of people nowadays are pushy to get popular at their schools, group of friends and most especially on the Internet. The article justified the pros and cons of being the IT girl from a regular girl. But the bottom line – Friends are more important than fans. Remember that attention whores. Lol.

And of course, can’t get enough of the boys section…

…and updated fashion features.

Also this month, Candy Magazine lets you in on over 70 star secrets – from style steals and get-pretty tricks to real-life smarts and A-list treats for less. A lot of girls have been e-mailing me, asking on how they can improve their fashion taste. As I always advise, subscribe to magazines like Candy so you’d have an idea what are the hip stores, “IN” trends and their updated prices.

Syempre, my shots of the magazine are too small for you to read so you have to buy a copy of your own. Haha. Grab a copy of Candy now for only 100 pesos and get a chance to win a TOPSHOP shopping spree or a pair Havaianas. Candy Magazine’s August issue with Glee’s Lea Michele on the cover is now available in newstands, bookstores and supermarkets nationwide.

Ugly Clogs

Foot Locker (a US footwear retailer) defines a ‘hot chick with lousy shoes’ as Buttershoes. Some say it was derived from the phrase ‘but her shoes’ which makes sense.

But this isn’t about the sneakers…

The concept is reasonable because I never liked clogs as worn by the first girl on the ad. I know a lot of people hate Crocs but how about the Louis Vuitton clogs? The Marni Clogs? You might think again because of the brand, but I really don’t like clogs! Unfortunately, just like the slender Kitten Heels, Clogs are appearing at designers runway this year and will remain (as predicted) until 2011. But if you’re into these bulky shoes, make sure you pick the ones with high heels (which still don’t look appealing to me but not as bad as flat clogs).

Those are my feet, but definitely not my crocs. :P

Kitten Heels

For no reason, I might be blogging just about shoes for my next entries.

I always endorse wearing high heels especially if you’re going out for a party or formal events, which is kind of frustrating. Well good news for those who want to wear shoes with heels but can’t manage to walk in 4″ high. Just so you know, Kitten Heels are coming back. A kitten heel is actually a slender heel with only a height of 2 inches or less. A pair of pointed kitten heels is better matched with minimal designed clothing like your office corporate slacks or solid-colored mini dress.

I personally don’t have this ‘kitten style’ dahil mas lalo akong natitipilok. But looking at these gorgeous shoes from Missoni Spring 2010, I might take it into consideration:

Sosyalera.net 2nd Anniversary

And because it’s my blog’s 2nd year online, I’m giving away freebies, TOPSHOP clothes and 10,000 cash. CHOS! Kidding aside, I can’t believe this website lasted for 2 years, thanks to my loyal readers and friends who are forced to read my blog. Haha.

So I have to stick with a simple post instead. I would just like to thank everyone for visiting sosyalera.net. Napamahal na sa akin ang domain na ‘to, so I guess I’m obliged to maintain this blog for another year. :)

Cheers!

Corporate Chic

Good Day, Ms Leyn! I am a freshman college student taking up Tourism. I’ve been reading your blog posts for a long time and I find it very helpful and informative most especially to the younger generation. Just like your other fans, I would like to ask for some help and advice regarding my problem.

Weeks from now I’ll be attending a seminar with my fellow batch mates in a hotel. Our professor told us to wear a corporate attire during the seminar instead of wearing our uniforms. My problem is this is my first time attending a seminar and this is also the first time I’ll be asked to wear a corporate attire. The only idea I have in mind about a corporate attire is the usual attire of those people who works in an office like those slacks and blazers. I really don’t have an idea on what to wear for that seminar. I want to wear a corporate attire that looks formal yet chic and not old-fashioned. I hope you can help me with this Ms. Leyn. Thank you and God bless.

- V

Dear V,

As what you’ve said, slacks and blazers are like ‘the standard corporate attire’ so it’s acceptable if you wear them on the seminar. But just for a more stylish look, I advise you to wear a semi-formal dress with short sleeves, above-the-knee length and minimal prints. Pair it with a classic black pumps and you’re off to go…

High Heels Hurt

Random Question of the Day:

Masakit ba mag-suot ng high heels?

This is for some guys who always ask me this question. And the answer is YES. Obviously, wearing high heels is like hell. They say that 5″ designer shoes don’t hurt as much as normal high heels because of extra cushion and quality. But believe me, even the most expensive Jimmy Choos hurt and the most experienced supermodel aches in a pair of 6″ platform pumps.

But why wear heels?

Fashion is given, but the main reason is to look sexy. I know most of you have already watched porn. Notice that porn stars still wear their high heels even without their clothes on. Haha! A porn star wearing clogs looks weird, right? But before anyone thinks that I watch too much porn (lol), basically, high heels are a symbol of sophistication, liberation and classiness. So guys, enough of the “stop-wearing-heels-if-you’re-not-comfortable” cliché. It’s just a girl’s way of looking good and sexy. :)

Taylor Momsen Make-Up

Ok, so according to Taylor Momsen’s interview on MTV, she just fired her stylist. Thus, she has no stylist. Wenk. I know most of you just love her rocker chick style on Gossip Girl and I’m a bit guilty of this. But lately, I’m no longer digging her mature look especially her make-up, as she put tons of charcoal eye-liner and bloody red lipstick.

“I think firing my stylist has allowed me to be more free. I was getting molded into this thing that wasn’t who I am.

With her look, she’s not Little J anymore, I think she wants to be The Joker.

Vampires Suck!

Lol.

Well anyway, believe it or not, I wasn’t able to watch Eclipse (3rd Twilight Movie) because I can’t force any of my friends to watch it with me. So unfortunately, I can’t post an informal review like I did before. But wait, there’s more! I saw the trailer of this upcoming movie Vampires Suck and I find it interesting. I just hope the whole movie is as funny as the trailer itself…

Suck that Twihards.
